I'm really struggling here for finding information on setting up Remote Desktop Services for the outside into our network and what the best practice would be. I have a Dell SonicWall TZ300 that brings in two separate ISP lines, I have an older Server 2003 with Terminal Services on it using a much older SonicWall, that is intermittent at best. I would like to get rid of the older server and go with the newer system.
However I can't seem to wrap my brain around where to start and set this up. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm still learning the ropes and just can't seem to find the documentation that I need or the 'How-To' that would help me with this new setup. We also now use VMWareThanks a ton! You guys/gals have all been great so far! I'm open to however we need to do it. The old IT tech did some changes on the IP Address for our current setup by changing the Port Address and a lot of other stuff that I'm not sure how to do at this point. I've been trying to research and study for all the components but I'm still a little stumped by what I need to do. Currently, we RDP into the Terminal Server running 2003. I'd like to change the way we connect into the system while I'm upgrading our servers to 2012 R2, but I'm finding this a bit overwhelming at times.I've not heard of DNS Made Easy before, nor am I sure how to set it up to work with our system. But it would be worth looking into. The NAT I assume would be done on the Sonicwall, correct?
And then would I add Remote Services to an existing 2012 Server? In some ways, I would love to see some sort of step by step guide that is newer and updated with 2012 R2 and the newer TZ Sonicwalls as well. Mostly I keep coming up with things for 2003 or 2008. Roscoe@APL wrote:Thanks everyone. The idea of contacting Dell SonicWall never crossed my mind, it is only a few months old and yes, we have the full stuff with it! Great idea!I'll look over the other instructions on how to setup a WinServ2012 RDS!
I am hoping to be in business soon! Thanks. My nightmare just re-occurred. I sat on hold for literally 2 hours with the Dell SonicWall support team.
And they were horrible.I highly recommend contacting the pros, but I would stay away from contacting Dell SonicWall directly. I use a service from WesternNRG that answers every question I throw at them and charges a flat monthly fee without a contract. They are on the west coast so that is an added bonus because it fits well with my scheduled downtime on the east coast.

I assume Sonicwall's don't support DMVPN since that's Cisco thing? Is there anything comparable in Sonicwall's world? How are you managing full mesh VPN in Sonciwalls, a VPN end point configuration for every spoke to spoke possible combination? I would have thought GMS would have some easy full site mesh auto-configure, but I can't seem to find anything of the sort in searching. Please tell me there's a better way to configure a ton of sites for full mesh without reverting to hub and spoke and overloading the hub with tons of spoke to spoke traffic. You can create routes with different metrics on each and every SonicWall and manually create as many point to point VPNs in any combination you like.
There's also OSPF you can play with.Believe me though, we have this at our largest client and not only is it a huge pain to set up and maintain, but it makes it very difficult to troubleshoot issues when they happen. The hardest to troubleshoot are when a VPN tunnel is 'up' because the network monitor hasn't marked it as 'down' yet and it's not passing any traffic through it. Happens easily when the connection is going in and out and not fully down. You're better off getting Cisco's Meraki routers with dynamic mesh vpn and calling it a day. Expensive but it really is the way to go if you want that sort of thing.
